A router plane is a great tool for working shallow mortices – hinge gains, inlay, doorlocks, trimming tenons and the like. Lie-Nielsen’s version is based on an early Stanley 071 model, the Open Throat design offers more visibility in front of the tool, which is especially useful for inlay work. Also, the blade is held solidly in the body in a square broached hole (blades will not fit original Stanleys).
